HIP! Apprentice Competition 2012

And the winner is...!

Congratulations go to George Caddick from Cornwall College, Camborne - winner of the HIP! National Apprentice of the Year 2012 competition!George_Caddick

The final took place at HIP!-EX, Newbury Racecourse on 18th & 19th April. George was over the moon when he received his prize - £1,000 worth of Plumbfix vouchers - from Kevin Wellman CEO of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering. He also picked up a cut-glass trophy, a Certificate of Achievement, tools and workwear. Cornwall College, Camborne also benefitted by receiving £500 worth of Plumbfix vouchers.

Kevin Wellman said: “It was inspiring to see such enthusiastic, competent youngsters involved in this competition. Well done George, you did a terrific job. I think congratulations should also go to the lecturers and families for all their support and encouragement of those taking part.”

Celia Matthews, competition organiser said: “There was so much positive energy at the final, you could see the determination on the student’s faces as they all competed for the title. They should all feel very proud for getting so far in the competition.”

Here are the regional finalists who took part in the HIP! National Apprentice of the Year 2012 competition final, staged at HIP-EX, Newbury Racecourse on 18th & 19th April.

Celia Matthews, organiser of the competition said: "Everyone who entered deserves a big pat on the back, I hope you all enjoyed the experience!"

HIP! National Apprentice of the Year 2013

The search is now on for the HIP! National Apprentice of the Year 2013, which is sponsored by Plumbfix. Everyone who takes part will receive free tools and who knows, you might be the one to take the title!

The competition structure

Each college is allowed to put forward two students, they can be working in the industry or college based. To be eligible you must currently be studying for your Level 2 or 3 NVQ qualification.

All competitors attend one of six regional heats, where an overall regional winner is announced. Each student that enters the competition will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement for entering the competition regardless of whether he or she wins and they get to keep all the workwear clothing and tools. All regional winners will be given an all expenses paid trip to the Live Final.  

Prizes

All six finalists will receive a special cut-glass trophy, a range of other tools and gifts donated by various manufacturers and brand new top quality clothing. The overall winner of the competition will be awarded the title of ‘HIP! UK Apprentice Plumber of the Year 2013' and be presented with his or her award by the President of the CIPHE.

In addition, the winner will also receive £1,000 worth of Plumbfix vouchers, and the winner’s college will be awarded £500 worth of Plumbfix vouchers. Each competitor will take away with them OVER £80 WORTH OF PLUMBERS’ TOOLS.
