The competition
Each college was allowed to put forward one student (college-based) and one apprentice (working in the industry). All competitors were invited to attend one of six regional heats, where an overall regional winner was announced. Each student that entered the competition was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for entering the competition regardless of whether they won or not. All regional winners were given an all expenses paid trip to the HIP!-EX exhibition on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd April 2010, The final competition will ran over the two days at the annual event.
Prizes
All six finalists received a special cut-glass trophy, a top of the range Milwaukee 4-piece drill set (worth over £250) and brand new Blaklader top quality clothing, along with other prizes donated by various manufacturers. The overall winner of the competition, Danny Teare, was awarded the title of ‘HIP! UK Apprentice Plumber of the Year 2010’ and presented with his award by the president of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE). In addition, Danny also received £1,000 worth of Plumbfix vouchers, and the Cornwall College was awarded £500 worth of Plumbfix vouchers.
Each competitor will took away with them OVER £100 WORTH OF PLUMBING TOOLS. Tools had been kindly donated by Plumbfix, Rothenberger, Monument Tools, La-Co Flux and Stabila.
Entry requirements
If you are currently studying either the Level 2 or Level 3 Plumbing NVQ course as an apprentice OR studying Level 2 or Level 3 City & Guilds at college then you can enter the HIP! UK Apprentice Plumber of the Year competition.
Please note that there is no age restriction.
